Senior Health Advisor
Dr. Keshab Deuba holds a Master of Medical Science (MMSc) with a specialization in Epidemiology and a Ph.D. in Public Health from the Department of Global Public Health at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. His career focuses on health policy and systems research, with an emphasis on strengthening surveillance, research, and evaluation in communicable diseases like HIV and tuberculosis, as well as tackling broader public health challenges, including mental health, gender-based violence, and climate-related health impacts in low- and middle-income countries. With over a decade of experience, Dr. Deuba has worked in various roles across international development organizations, universities, and UN agencies.
Since the establishment of the Public Health and Environment Research Center (PERC), Dr. Deuba has served as a Senior Health Advisor, where he plays a key role in translational research, aiming to ensure that evidence and findings effectively reach the populations they are meant to benefit. He has received numerous awards, fellowships, and scholarships, including a research fellowship from the Göran Sterky Foundation, a grant from the International AIDS Society, a research apprenticeship with the Netherlands Development Organization, and a scholarship from the Swedish Research School for Global Health (2015/2016).
Dr. Deuba’s recent work centers on enhancing access to public health interventions and addressing issues that affect vulnerable populations, such as survivors of violence, people living with HIV, sexual and gender minorities, sex workers, and individuals who use drugs. His research includes exploring social and structural determinants, designing and evaluating peer-led interventions, and assessing the psychosocial health challenges and outcomes in Nepal and other diverse regions.
With extensive expertise in strengthening health information systems in low- and middle-income countries, Dr. Deuba promotes the use of routine health facility data, often utilizing free software such as DHIS2, to support evidence-based responses. As Senior Health Advisor at PERC, he provides guidance in conceptualizing and designing interventions, and offers technical support for managing surveys, research, and evaluations of public health projects.
