Advancing Health and Hygiene: Strengthening Healthcare Facilities in Nepal’s Midwestern Region
The Swachchhata (Health and Hygiene Activity) project, implemented by the Netherlands Development Organization (SNV) and Population Services International (PSI) Nepal, aimed to improve community health by integrating hygiene into healthcare delivery. Funded by USAID/Nepal (2016–2021), it focused on five districts in the Midwestern region.
In 2018, PERC received funding from PSI to conduct a baseline survey with the following objectives:
- Verify the status and numbers of operational healthcare facilities (HCFs) in the target districts.
- Identify HCFs for infrastructure improvements in water supply, sanitation, waste management, and renewable energy.
- Adapt capacity-building strategies based on infection prevention processes and behavioral change communication (BCC) in place.
- Establish baseline indicators for the project’s monitoring and evaluation plan.
PERC developed survey tools, trained field researchers, conducted data collection, and managed analysis and reporting. This project laid the foundation for targeted health infrastructure and service improvements.
